Software Industry Luminaries to Keynote at SD Best Practices 2006

San Francisco - August 25, 2006—CMP Technology’s Dr. Dobb’s has announced the keynote line-up for its Software Development Best Practices conference, September 11 – 14, in Boston. From prescriptions for repairing dysfunctional IT organizations and improving customer satisfaction to advances in artificial intelligence and creating safer software, this year’s line up features some of the most well-known and influential thought leaders in the software development industry. Conference information and press registration are available at http://www.sdexpo.com.

Naomi Karten, consultant, coach and seminar leader, kicks off the week with her keynote “Tales of Whoa and the Psychology of Customer Satisfaction” on Monday, September 11th at 12:30 PM. A well-known and accomplished speaker, Karten has presented seminars and presentations to more than 100,000 people worldwide, helping them improve customer satisfaction, manage change, strengthen teams, and improve communication and consulting skills.

Also on opening day, MIT’s Director of Computer Science and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Dr. Rodney Brooks’ presents “Having Fun and Changing the Future through Technology” on Monday, September 11 at 5:30 PM. When does artificial intelligence stop being artificial? and What's the distinction between conscious and unconscious?

Award-winning author, consultant and software industry guru, Tom DeMarco keynotes on Wednesday, September 13 at 12:30 PM. DeMarco, winner of the 1986 Warnier Prize for “lifetime contribution to the information sciences” and principal of the Atlantic Systems Guild computer think tank, will examine how “slow” organizations fail to work and will offer a practical prescription for turning them around in, “Quick or Dead: Organizational Velocity for an Impatient Age.”

IBM Distinguished Engineer, Dr. Murray Cantor, discusses the key factors that impact software team productivity in the closing keynote, “Agility, Governance and Productivity”, on Tuesday, September 12th, at 12:30 PM.

On Wednesday, September 13th, at 6:30 PM, Gary McGraw, Cigital CTO, best-selling author and authority on software and application security, discusses how to get past the theory of software security, and actually put it into practice. In “Software Security: Building Security In,” McGraw provides audience members with the tools they need to make security work for them, without radically changing the way they work.

Ian Knox, Group Product Manager at Microsoft, will present the closing keynote, “Advancing your Business with IT Solutions”, on Thursday, September 14, at 12:30 PM.

Presented by Dr. Dobb’s, SD Best Practices focuses on business-critical development and attracts senior level developers, managers, team leads and software architects.
