WINDOWS VISTA SESSIONS

Open to conference attendees only

Windows Vista enables developers to create engaging, visually stunning and highly differentiated user interfaces that make applications more usable and productive for end-users. See how you can use managed and native technologies including Windows Presentation Foundation, XAML, Direct X 10, Sidebar, and of course, the new Aero interface to create these new experiences. Windows Vista also provides the most comprehensive platform for building applications that connect users to each other and to their data, allowing them to visualize, share, and act on information. See the scenarios enabled by Windows Communication Foundation, built in peer-to-peer support, and RSS. The track will also cover the new integrated search technologies and how they enable new ways of organizing and presenting information.

Windows Vista: Tips & Tricks for Targeting Key Native APIs from Managed Code
Eric Lee
Thursday, March 22, 8:30 AM–10:00 AM

Windows Vista provides an extensive set of new APIs that enable improved user experiences and enhanced security, but some of these APIs are exposed through native COM and Win32 programming models. This session highlights strategies and techniques for taking advantage of these native APIs from managed code. Learn what's really involved in making your .NET application “light up on Windows Vista” with User Account Control (UAC) integration, Windows Vista User Experience features like common file dialogs, task dialogs and command links, and integrated desktop search.

Windows Vista: Beyond the .NET Framework 3.0
Brian Randell
Friday, March 23, 8:30 AM–10:00 AM

Windows Vista brings with it a fantastic platform for managed development, namely .NET Framework 3.0, however there are many new native APIs in Windows Vista. In this talk you will discover how to take advantage of this new functionality. Using Visual C++ to Light Up On Windows Vista
Nikola Dudar
Friday, March 23, 10:30 AM–12:00 PM

In this class we describe essential requirements for applications built with Visual C++ that want to run as first-class applications on Windows Vista. The class has two main parts: 1) An overview of approaches of using new Windows Vista features in existing Visual C++ applications, 2) A demonstration of features in the upcoming release of Visual C++ (codenamed Orcas) that facilitate creation of Windows Vista look-and-feel applications in Visual C++.
